On June 10th Michigan for Vaccine Choice held its annual Legislative Day, hosting members from across the state to act as citizen lobbyists. About 50 members met with offices of over 50 legislators, talking about subjects such as forced mandates, vaccine injury and new bills protecting vaccine choice rights.
The day culminated in a press conference lead by Representative James DeSana, who discussed how HB 4475 would amend the Eliott Larson Act to add vaccination status as a protected class.
Representatives Greene, Johnsen, Wortz and Fox spoke as co-sponsors to the bill, and represented that their constituents want vaccine choice.
Dr. Remington Nevin, who is the acting medical director for St. Clair county, made it clear that he was participating in an un-official capacity to encourage the legislature to embrace a move to restore the people's trust in public health. He described succinctly that the administrative rule promulgated was never meant to impose additional steps for vaccination exemptions. Administrative rules are promulgated to provide a process or policy for the internal administrative functions of the Local Health Department. Yet, for over a decade this rule has been forced on parent's resulting in a NON-funded "education" he likens to a "shame ritual", which was purposeful to make it harder for parents to exercise their right to exemption of vaccination under Michigan law.
Connie Johnson, media director for Michigan for Vaccine Choice reiterated MVC's mission and introduced HB 4552 & 4553 on behalf of Rep Brad Paquette, who sponsored the bills. Michigan for vaccine choice remains steadfast in protecting parents rights to vaccination exemption under the law without having to undergo, what Dr. Nevin discribes as a "shame ritual".
