More than 80% of our population is not vaccinated, yet outbreaks have been small and controlled. If you're an adult concerned about your own vaccination status, the CDC publishes an adult vaccination schedule for you to consider.

Michigan Surveillance Data

The table displays the number of adverse reactions resulting from the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) and Pertussis (Whooping Cough) vaccines in Michigan, versus the actual disease, based on Michigan health department and VAERS data.

In 2014, there were 1,424 cases of whooping cough (in which 68% were vaccinated). While there were 0 deaths as a result of the disease, there were 2 deaths from the vaccine, and 14 serious injuries (high fever, brain damage, or seizures) reported from the vaccine.

If only 1-10% of vaccine injuries are reported (per the FDA & CDC), that could mean that between 144 and 1,584 cases of serious injury or death from the vaccine went unreported.
